In this Issue:
Editorial : IDEM Singapore was a Gala Event.From scientific sessions to trade fair. All was done well. I have indeed written a short report on my experience bout the event in this issue. Coming to my last issue's continuation on toothpastes . Burnt Bread was found as an ingredient in toothpaste in 18th century in America.Dragon's blood( a resin) , cinnamon and burnt Alum were other recipies.Much of this time in America was similar to 25-50 BC dental care products which included ashes from burnt mice heads, rabbits heads, wolves heads, ox heels and goats feet , which were thought to be good for gums too.
In 1850's-, the Farmers Almanac included a mixture of the following
as toothpaste: 1 oz. myrrh (fine powder) ,2 spoonfuls of your
best honey .and a pinch of green sage. By the beginning of 19th
century, a paste made of
hydrogen peroxide and
baking soda was recommended for use
with toothbrushes.In 1892, Dr. Washington Sheffield of New London,
Connecticut, manufactured toothpaste into a collapsible tube.
Sheffield's toothpaste was called Dr. Sheffield's Creme
Dentifrice.In
New York City in 1896,
Colgate & Company Dental Cream was
packaged in collapsible tubes imitating Sheffield's paste. Then was the advent of the Modern tooth paste containing Sodium Lauryl Sulfate with abrasives like powdered mica , a flovouring agent like peppermint or spearmint etc. I hope very soon we have some E-Toothpaste for the 21st Century.

IDEM SINGAPORE A GRAND EVENT
The IDEM Singapore was a grand event held
at Suntec City in Singapore. IDEM Singapore — the Number 1 dental fair
in the Asia-Pacific region: was very well organised under the able
Chairmanship of Dr.Ng Jet Wei. The lectures would begin at 8:00 am in
morning and go upto 10am and again 3am to 5pm . This gave an ample time
for the delegates to attend the scientific sessions as well as justify
their presence at the Exhibition and sales section which had more than
6,000 trade visitors from 56 countries.
Advanced Continuing Dental Education Programs
The Univ. of Sheffield School of Clinical Dentistry in collaboration with Charles Clifford Dental Hospital opened a new dental research center with aid from the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the Scientific Research Investment Fund. The center has laboratories which can support cell culture , molecular biology ,proteomics ,neuroscience and more.Professor Peter Robinson has been leading the project since four Years.
